4K, Looping, and More

Hey there Naughty Machinima community and creators!

Big, Beautiful Update #1

I will be posting about the latest updates to our site over a series of Notices.
Some of these are very recent, others have been in the works for a few months.

All video and image content has been moved to the Clouds. When I started this website in 2009, files were much smaller, and even after a few years of uploads, hard drive space wasn’t such a high expense. But fast forward 15+ years and 12TB later, the server costs became completely prohibitive. With some magical changes, all that content is now floating up in the clouds with room to expand.

While still far from free to keep the lights on, we can move forward more easily.

Also you may have noticed that there is an HD/All tab on the front page, which I grabbed from the Videos page, made more pronounced and set to HD by default which will hide all SD stuff. If you want to see videos still being uploaded in SD, just switch it to All.

One of the more exciting changes is now there is 4K support.

For Creators and Uploaders: If you have content to upload that is 2160p (4K) then it should work probably.

For viewers: The highest quality format is always auto-selected (as before), so anything that qualified as 4K, will now be that, and look better.

In fact, you may have noticed the quality of new videos has increased. I tuned some numbers and the results are noticeable. So 720p and 1080p look really good now, and 4k looks really really good. So all uploads from here on out will be sharper and better visually.

Another fun one: You now have the option to Loop videos, you should see a button for this on your video player. I am considering having a section or filter for short loopable clips (the mininum duration requirement in the Terms can go away but there has to be something in place to keep spammed short clips in check to not clutter the front and videos pages.

Finally, I am making design improvements and bug fixes, like the Outbox in your PM area actually is useful now, and other subtle things that were just not functionally sound.

Stay tuned for the next update: A new content filtering system (which will cover all bases), and more.
